Heat transfer is the collision of high energy molecules from the hotter item to the low energy molecules of the cold item. Heat transfer can only occur when you have a temperature difference between the two objects. This is the second law of thermodynamics. The larger the temperature difference, the greater the rate of heat transfer. This is the first law of thermodynamics. If you only lay the object on ice, you are passively transferring heat through conduction where the high energy molecules transfer energy to the cold ice through particle handmade lavender soap This is called diffusion and is a slow form of heat transfer due to its reliance on the passive movement of the particles. The local temperature difference between the two objects eventually decrease which consequently slows down the rate of heat transfer. If you spin the object, you are actively mixing the low energy molecules near the transfer interface with the high energy molecules from the rest of the hot object which allows you to maintain a large temperature difference between the two objects and thus increase the cooling rate. This is called convection. It is the same reason why convection oven cook much faster than regular ovens.
